In keeping with our Mélange of Math & Eco-Science theme, we bring you a mishmash of merry riddles and hodgepodge of word jumbles this year!
Why?
Because kids love unraveling the mysteries of their world and discovering the joy of putting things in order. Well, that, and the fact that we are excited to give away some wonderful prizes for the first and the second all-correct entries.
Who can enter?
Although the puzzles are aimed at kids in the 6-10 age group, kids outside this group are welcome to participate if they find it challenging and interesting enough.
What to do?
Kids get to solve the three puzzles as part of this year's CROCUSWORD:
I. Tease-the-funny-bone Riddles
II. Jumbled Book Hunt
III. Crossword
as quickly as they can and have their parents email the correct answers to prabaram@gmail.com
Crossword answers can be just the list of correct words, with their corresponding numbers.
And, as a bonus, kids and/or parents can solve the Completely Optional Cryptogram Quote and send it along with their entry for 'honorable mention' in our results post.
Results will be announced on October 28, 2012 and the winners will be contacted via email.
How to enter?
-email your solutions to prabaram@gmail.com
-only one entry per family
-answers to all puzzles in a single email (including the bonus Cryptogram solution, if solving)
-email Subject: Crocusword 2012
-send the email out on or before noon of October 27, 2012 Indian Standard Time
What prizes are we talking here?
First and second all-correct (most-correct) entries to reach us get a pack of wonderful books each.
First place: a set of Nathan Kumar Scott's The Kanchil Series from Tara Books, that Arundhati reviewed.
Second place: Bulbuli's Bamboo (a hot off the press copy!) and The Coral Tree from Tulika.
A huge thanks to Tara and Tulika for giving away your lovely books to our winners this year!
OK, now out with the puzzles already!

Very nice. Looking forward to work on this with the kids.
awesome, Sheela! love the range of puzzles, we'll be working on it :)
Enjoyed doing this with P, Sheela! The riddles were shared with other kids too, and there was much giggling when they got it :) Perfect for Saraswati puja!
Thank you all! It was my pleasure to put together a small assortment of puzzles so it will be fun for all, especially the young elementary school kiddos...
